Residential Retreats

Learning to drive can be a stressful time, and it isn't just stressful for the new driver, it can be difficult for everyone - which is why dedicated residential driving courses can help stop you going round the bend.

Learner Driver

One of the things homeowners of the outer-city and larger town streets often complain about is the proliferation of learner drivers. It can drive people potty having their neighbourhood roads clogged up by an endless procession of teenagers and such undertaking three point turns. There have even been newspaper features where streets have vented their outrage at learner drivers. It's not surprising that more learner drivers are opting for driving courses - residential driving courses - in the countryside away from the stresses of built up city streets or strung-out suburban homeowners seething with resentment.

Are residential driving courses the solution?

Road rage it seems is prolific on our streets with more car owners hurling abuse left, right and centre. For learner drivers, being on the end of a frustrated driver's abuse or impatience can be upsetting, off putting and disconcerting. Residential driving courses offer space and freedom for learner drivers to practice in peace. One street in Newton Abbot, Devon was so outraged by the learner drivers that it featured in the Daily Mail. Oak Tree Drive saw up to 50 learners a day practising their parallel parking and emergency stops. The street said it was time to put the brakes on. One neighbour said he felt "completely besieged" by learner drivers prompting the news headline:

The Living 'L' of Oak Tree Drive.

Driven round the bend.

Residents on the above street said the problem was so intense it was beginning to affect property values on the whole road. The street is near the driving test centre in Devon, and the learner drivers regularly mount kerbs and dent bumpers. For homeowners it can leave them on tenterhooks about their own-parked vehicles.

Driving courses that are residential, taking learner drivers into remote country spots where they have the freedom to learn is the perfect solution for everyone.

Then once they become skilled in their newly acquired craft it will not hurt so much!

The residents of Oak Tree Drive say that up to 45 driving schools regularly use their leafy road. One of the homeowners on the street even said: "We chose to live here because it is quiet and ideal for the kids. But we daren't let them out half the time." Neighbours on the street said it was hard to relax watching novice drivers from their living room windows as they attempted to parallel park next to their own cars. Some residents even resorted to moving their own vehicle while the manoeuvre was in progress and others just resorted to shouting harsh words or even sitting on the road edge so as to obstruct!
